Meet The Team
John Sykes, MSW, LSCW (He,They)
Founder & Owner
I believe healing begins in connection—with ourselves, with others, and with the world around us. My work centers curiosity, compassion, and the creative process of becoming. I approach therapy as a space of co-creation, where both client and therapist bring lived experience and wisdom toward healing and liberation.
Daunte Henderson MSW, LCSW (He/Him)
Social Worker | Therapist
My therapeutic approach is collaborative and client-centered, emphasizing empowerment for all involved. I believe in amplifying each client's strengths throughout our journey together. Guided by the principle that "people start to heal the moment they feel heard," I prioritize creating a safe space where clients can authentically express themselves and co-create positive change.
Almira M. Khan AM, LSCW (She/Her)
Social Worker | Therapist
My therapeutic approach is rooted in family systems, emphasizing differentiation of self and multigenerational transmission processes. I tailor interventions to meet each client's unique needs, fostering a collaborative and empowering therapeutic relationship.
I excel in addressing issues related to trauma, intergenerational patterns, and disconnect between personal values and thoughts/behaviors. My expertise allows me to provide comprehensive assessments and evidence-based interventions for a diverse range of behavioral health concerns.
David D. Robertson, MA, MSSW, LMSW
(He/Him)
Social Worker | Therapist
I am currently pursuing a PhD in Social Work at the University of Maryland. My foundational clinical training was completed at Columbia University’s School of Social Work, where I specialized in evidence-based approaches to grief and trauma.
Dacia Slater MSW, LSW (She/Her)
Social Worker | Therapist
Grounded in a person-centered approach, I am dedicated to supporting individuals in meaningful, strengths-based healing. As an emerging clinician, I bring over two years of experience working with children and families, utilizing expressive arts, and engaging with diverse populations.
Tre Nowaczynski, LCSW (He, Him)
Social Worker | Therapist
A trauma-focused clinician dedicated to supporting youth and families affected by community violence. Tre currently works as a pediatric specialist in the Violence Recovery Program at the University of Chicago and as a therapist at According To Sykes.
Talayah Lemon, ATR-P (She, Her)
Counselor | Creative Art Therapist
As a pre-licensed Creative Arts Therapist, I believe art can serve as a powerful voice for healing and self-expression. Over the past year and a half, I have worked with children, preteens, and families to support holistic therapeutic care through a Person-Centered and Expressive Arts approach.
My work focuses on honoring each individual’s identity, strengths, and lived experiences while creating a safe, collaborative, and nonjudgmental space for growth. Using creative modalities such as painting, collage, poetry, clay, and other expressive materials, I support clients in processing anxiety, depression, emotional challenges, and life transitions through reflection, mindfulness, and self-awareness.
Kiya J. West (She, Her)
Director of Operations
I manage daily operations at According to Sykes with a focus on exceptional client experience, clinical support infrastructure, and compliance readiness. My priority is to ensure our clinicians have the clarity, tools, and structure to deliver transformative care. I work across the practice to scale sustainably, elevate operational standards, and drive community impact with integrity and compassion. I am proud to support a practice that leads with heart and operates with excellence. I am a passionate advocate for healing, growth, and personal well-being.
