Meet Almira Khan
Clinical Social Work/ Therapist AM, LSW (She/Her/Hers)
As a dedicated behavioral health professional, I am passionate about helping individuals achieve mental and emotional well-being. As a new clinician with about 2 years of experience, I specialize in depressive symptoms, anxiety symptoms, relationship building with self and others, and dealing with major life changes through a trauma informed lens and a decolonizing lens.
I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with a minor in Gender Women Studies and Entrepreneurship from The University of Wisconsin - Madison, a Master’s Degree in Social Work from The University of Chicago, and I am an Illinois Licensed Social Worker. Additionally, I am a Violence Recovery Specialist at UChicago Medicine in the Emergency Department and I regularly engage in continuing education to stay abreast of the latest advancements in behavioral health.
My therapeutic approach is rooted in family systems, emphasizing differentiation of self and multigenerational transmission processes. I tailor interventions to meet each client's unique needs, fostering a collaborative and empowering therapeutic relationship.
I excel in addressing issues related to trauma, intergenerational patterns, and disconnect between personal values and thoughts/behaviors. My expertise allows me to provide comprehensive assessments and evidence-based interventions for a diverse range of behavioral health concerns.
I prioritize a client-centered and trauma-informed approach, recognizing the importance of cultural sensitivity and inclusivity. My goal is to create a safe and non-judgmental space where clients can explore their thoughts and emotions openly.
I integrate various therapeutic modalities, including mindfulness, motivational interviewing, and psychodynamic theories to ensure a holistic and effective treatment plan tailored to individual needs.
Effective collaboration with other healthcare professionals and stakeholders is essential for comprehensive care. I am adept at fostering interdisciplinary communication to ensure a holistic approach to clients' well-being. Grounded in evidence-based practices, my interventions are informed by the latest research findings.
