Meet the Owner


John Sykes

MSW, LCSW, Owner (he/they)

John Sykes is an integrated therapist, abolitionist and educator.  John is the owner of According to Sykes.  John works with individuals, families and communities impacted by the complexities of traumatic life events. He uses a relational framework as a vehicle to facilitate healing and reflective spaces. Body-centered,  inner selves work and systemic models are approaches used in his practice. 


  • Bachelor of Science in Youth Services Administration, Northeastern Illinois University

  • Master of Clinical Social Work, Loyola University Chicago School of Social Work with a Concentration in Child, Adolescent and Family Therapy 


  • Clinical Social Worker, Licensed in Illinois

  • Lecturer at the University of Chicago's Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy and Practice.

  • Lectured at Jane Addams School of Social Work at the University of Illinois - Chicago

  • Thirty-five years of social services experience specializing in complex trauma, child welfare, children's mental health, residential, domestic violence and community health.

Robertson, courage researcher, your future therapist and proud graduate of Columbia University’s School of Social Work. I am also a 200-hour certified yoga instructor. The path to leading a healthier and more authentic life can feel overwhelming at times, but I partner with you to help you get a better understanding of yourself along the journey. Through this partnership, we will establish goals you want to meet for yourself and map out strategies to accomplish them.
