David D. Robertson | According To Sykes

Clinical Social Work/Associate Therapist, MA, MSSW, LMSW (He/Him/His)

Healing often begins with the simple but powerful belief that change is possible.

My work is grounded in helping individuals navigate the impacts of trauma, grief, loss, anxiety, depression, and life transitions while reconnecting with their own strengths, resilience, and capacity for growth. I am especially passionate about supporting individuals from faith-based communities and those whose identities and experiences have been shaped by systems of marginalization.

I believe that healing is not about becoming someone new. It is about reclaiming the parts of yourself that may have been hidden, silenced, or disconnected through experiences of pain, loss, or adversity.

My Approach

As a clinician and social work scholar currently pursuing a PhD in Social Work at the University of Maryland, I bring both clinical expertise and a commitment to understanding the broader social and systemic factors that influence mental health and well-being.

My foundational clinical training was completed at Columbia University’s School of Social Work, where I developed specialized skills in evidence-based approaches to trauma and grief.

In my practice, I integrate Narrative Therapy, Somatic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) through a decolonized and liberation-informed lens. Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach, I work collaboratively with clients to create a therapeutic experience that honors their unique story, values, culture, and goals.

Creating Space for Healing

A Foundation of Hope

At the center of my work is the belief that healing happens in relationship.

I value openness, authenticity, and collaboration, and I encourage clients to bring their questions, fears, hopes, and aspirations into the therapeutic process. My goal is not to tell you who to be, but to support you in discovering the strengths, wisdom, and possibilities that already exist within you.

Healing is rarely linear, but you do not have to navigate it alone.
