Dacia Slater, MSW, LSW | According To Sykes

At According To Sykes, we believe healing begins when people feel safe enough to show up as themselves.

For Dacia Slater, MSW, LSW, that belief is at the center of everything she does.

Working with children, adolescents, young adults, and families, Dacia is passionate about creating spaces where people feel seen, heard, and supported as they navigate life’s challenges. Whether someone is struggling with anxiety, self-esteem, identity development, school-related stress, family concerns, or major life transitions, she approaches each client with curiosity, compassion, and a deep respect for their unique experiences.

Why Supporting Young People Matters

Childhood, adolescence, and young adulthood are periods of tremendous growth and change. Young people are often navigating academic pressures, evolving relationships, questions about identity, family expectations, and the challenge of discovering who they are in an increasingly complex world.

At the same time, they are frequently expected to manage these changes without having dedicated space to process what they are experiencing.

Dacia believes every child, adolescent, and young adult deserves a place where they can explore their thoughts and emotions openly, develop confidence in themselves, and build the skills needed to navigate life’s challenges.

Her work is grounded in the belief that healing is not about fixing people. It is about creating the conditions where resilience, self-awareness, and growth can flourish.

Helping Young Adults Navigate Life’s Transitions

The transition into adulthood can be both exciting and overwhelming.

Many young adults find themselves balancing questions about identity, relationships, career paths, independence, and belonging while also managing stress, anxiety, and uncertainty about the future.

Dacia enjoys supporting young adults as they navigate these transitions with greater confidence and self-understanding. Through a strengths-based and collaborative approach, she helps clients identify their values, build healthy coping strategies, and develop a stronger connection to themselves and others.

Whether someone is entering college, beginning a new career, navigating family dynamics, or simply trying to figure out what comes next, therapy can provide space for reflection, growth, and meaningful change.

A Creative and Person-Centered Approach to Healing

Dacia recognizes that healing does not look the same for everyone. Drawing from expressive arts, play-based interventions, and family systems perspectives, she incorporates creativity into the therapeutic process when it feels supportive and meaningful.

For some clients, healing happens through conversation. For others, it may emerge through art, storytelling, movement, play, or other forms of creative expression.

By meeting clients where they are, Dacia helps children, adolescents, and young adults explore difficult emotions, strengthen coping skills, and build greater confidence in themselves and their relationships.

Areas of Focus

Dacia works with individuals and families experiencing:

  • Anxiety and stress

  • Self-esteem concerns

  • Identity exploration

  • School and academic challenges

Her approach is collaborative, strengths-based, and tailored to the unique needs of each client.

A Reflection from Dacia

“As adults, we can sometimes forget what it feels like to be a child. There are so many changes happening internally and externally. My goal is to create a space where young people feel seen, heard, and supported in all aspects of who they are.”
